Ulster Rugby

rugby union

Ulster Rugby, one of the four professional province rugby clubs in Ireland, is home to the Ulster Rugby team. It is part the IRFU Ulster Branch, and competes at the Heineken Champions Cup and the United Rugby Championship. It plays home games in Belfast's Kingspan Stadium.

Ulster has enjoyed its fair share, and it's no accident that the provincial is second in the Irish conference. Over the past few decades, however, the club has seen a slowdown. This is not to suggest that there are not signs of improvement in the coming season. The Champions Cup is still a distant goal for the province.

Ulster enjoyed their golden era of 2000s success, winning the Celtic League title in 2005. Also, Ulster won the Heineken Champions Cup 1999 for the first time. They finished first in the Pro12 table 2012, which was their first European competition. The club came in runners-up in 2011's Heineken Champions Cup. They beat Toulouse and Saracens.

The club was in second place in Celtic League for the 2003-2004 seasons. Toulouse defeated them in the Champions Cup group stage, ending their three-year unbeaten streak in the competition.

In 2006-07, the club's fortunes plummeted. After a defeat of Gloucester 32-14, Mark McCall was forced to resign as head coach. David Humphreys, the club’s director of Rugby, also retired. David Humphreys left the province to take up a similar job at Gloucester.

There was a major change in the management structure of the team in 2009-10. Mark McCall, an ex-Ulster captain, was appointed as Alan Solomons' replacement. As assistant coach, Jeremy Davidson was named. Les Kiss was appointed director of rugby. Dan Tuohy, originally from Exeter, was signed.

The team went through a major turnaround in the 2010-11 season. Neil Doak replaced Alan Solomons as head coach. Ulster won 13 consecutive games and advanced to the quarter-finals at the Heineken Cup. Unfortunately, they then lost to Leinster at Twickenham.

Despite the disappointing results, the Ulster footballers showed their commitment to the cause. They were led in part by Justin Harrison from Australia and Isaac Boss, a New Zealand-born Irish scrum half. Both were named Player Of The Year. Roger Wilson and John Cooney received the honor. But, the club experienced a setback when Nevin Spencer, centre, died in an automobile accident. The club lost several other players, including the out-half Ian Humphreys and Rob Herring, who both went to London Irish.

The club started to make progress after a disappointing 2008-09 season. They won their next five matches, including a 27-16 win against Scarlets. As a result, they reached the semi-finals of the Celtic League.

How is parasailing different than parachuting

Para-gliding involves using a harness that is attached to a small sailing sail to fly above the earth. The harness lets you fly. It keeps you safe when you're falling through the air.

Flying is easy with no equipment. You simply attach yourself to the sail. Then you go off. As you rise in altitude, the wind pulls against the sail. This allows it to lift you.

You glide along the ground and keep moving forward. Your momentum propels you forward until you reach its end. You then release your grip to fall back to the ground.

When you're ready to start again, reattach yourself to the sail.

Parasailing continues to grow at a rapid pace. 2013 saw more than 1,000,000 people partake in parasailing. This is almost twice the number of people who participated in parasailing in 2008
